Social Clock-Cultural expectations of when major life milestones should occur
Insomnia-The inability to fall asleep or to sleep more than a few hours at a time
Binge Drinking-The heavy consumption of alcohol over a short period of time
Alcoholism-Disease resulting from the addiction to alcohol
Fluid Intelligence-The ability to reason abstractly, which includes calculating mathematical problems with speed or learning things quickly.
Crystallized Intelligence-Aptitude that includes judgement, knowledge, and skills needed in life and work.
Postformal Stage-Cognitive stage of development in which adults appear to be better at dealing with complex questions they may never fully answer.
Postconvetional Morality-Kohlberg's final stage of moral development in which adults begin to care about the local community,environment,and society as a whole.
Intimacy v. isolation-Erikson's socio-emtional stage for young adulthood in which he theorized that if people do not establish intimate relationships during young adulthood, they risk isolation from others
Intimacy-The self-disclosure and sharing of private thoughts and emotions
Secure Attachment Style-Occurs when people perceive relationships positively and often establish relationships smoothly and naturally
Avoidant Attachment Style-When adults tend to avoid "getting too close" to other or avoid commitment;often results in multiple, short-lived relationships.
Anxious Attachment Style-Results when people are often anxious ,possessive,demanding,and tend to lack trust in relationship partners
Affectionate Love-Involves romantic ways of expressing love for each other, which are not necessarily sexual.
Romantic Love-Develops from the combination of friendly love and affectionate love and creates the feelings of security in the relationship and care and appreciation for each other.
Consummate Love-The combination of affectionate love and and a desire to commit to the relationship through good times and challenges; often results in marriage
Infatuation-An obsession with someone based on appearance or ability.
Compromise-To reach an agreement by incorporating each partners goals and ideas into one solution.
Unconditional Love-Love without limits or expectations
