Characteristics of Thinking
Egocentrism- preschoolers believe that their the center of the universe and that the stuff that happens around them are because of them. To facilitate development preschool teachers could do a couple of things like mix paints to form new color, provide open-ended materials for play. and read realistic stories to them. Centration- Preschoolers focus on one aspect of problem or situation,children are drawn to fast movement so when a superhero is in action they are interested but when the action slows they lose interests in the show/movie. They focus on the salient, more exciting, active segments. Inability to Converse- The age group of 3-4 years old have difficulty understanding that an amount remains the same unless we take away from or add to it. The child's thinking is limited by his/her perceptions. Animistic Thinking- The use of animism is due to confusion over what is real and what is pretend.
